Rising damp is often visually apparent to the property owner or prospective purchaser by noting discolouration and damage to decorative finishes.  However, dampness is not always so noticeable and if left unchecked can soon lead to subsequent problems such as dry rot and wet rot which can seriously affect the structure of the property.


Our Surveyors with the aid of specialised equipment will carry out a detailed inspection, analyse their findings and will report upon the probable causes of the problem.  The report is returned together with a sketch plan showing the affected walls and proposed remedial treatment, together with details of any ancillary building works.


Insite recommend a popular and well proven method of chemical injection.  The walls are drilled at pre determined depths and intervals then pressure injected using either silicone or stearate based chemicals and creams which prevent capillary action, thereby forming an impervious moisture barrier.  This system can be employed on the majority of buildings, either of solid or cavity brick construction, but other methods are available for non traditional structures to include the use of Wykamol Injection Mortar.


When rising damp occurs, ground water which is absorbed into the walls, deposits hygroscopic salts (moisture attracting) into the brickwork and plaster.  Despite an effective damp proof course being installed, these salts can absorb moisture from the atmosphere and give the impression of continued dampness.  In order to avoid this problem, it is essential that the affected plaster be hacked off and subsequently re-instated using Wykamol Renovating Plaster or replastered incorporating a suitable rendering additive.  A detailed replastering specification, approved by Insite will be forwarded with our Surveyors’ report.

Rising damp is a common problem in older properties either because no damp proof course was provided at the time of construction or because a physical membrane has failed or been “bridged”.  In the majority of cases the provision of a remedial damp proof course is a cost effective option with minimum disturbance to the occupier.
